The US-CHINA Trade War Impact on PCB



During the 2nd quarter, major PCB manufacturers such as Unitech, Compeq, Tripod all have an increase of sales comparing to last year. However, regard to the 3rd quarter, PCB makers are worry about the side effect of China-US trade war. But most of them also believe that the negative effects would not affect on the PCB demanding in cell phone especially Apple products.


For example Compeq, they have been suffering from consecutive recession in the last five years, but for the 2nd quarter they are seeing an increase comparing to the 1st quarter and the 2nd quarter of 2018. For Unitech, their sales reached 5.6 Billion, which is the peak of the last 6 quarters. They are forecasting a 10% grow in the next quarter and challenging sales of 22 Billion in the whole year.


Unitech manufactures rigid-flexible PCBs, their main customers is Apple Ipod and automotive. In the first quarter they sold 4.832 billion in slack season, in the 2nd quarter the number rised about 15.89% and we can expect it continue increase to 22.94% for the whole year.


Currently Tripod has a stable market on DRAM module, automotive boards and HDI. For the 2nd quarter they have a sales of 13 Billion which is 0.3 billion higher than last year this period. Tripod expects the trend similar to last year as increasing gradually, but they have an concern of the trade war and the negative effects of Huawei issues.


Tripod has successfully increased their PCB manufacturing capacity by finishing new plant in Thailand to 4.8 million sqft monthly. They are now focusing on optimize the production of new Thailand PCB plant. More and more EMS factories are looking their vendor in Southeast region due to trade war, we can see a notable change from the 3rd quarter on.
